Public Hearing on the 2011 Amended Budget and Appropriation Ordinance

The Glen Ellyn Park District held a Public Hearing for the 2011 Amended Budget and Appropriation Ordinance.

Approval of the 2011 Amended Budget and Appropriation Ordinance

The Board of Commissioners approved the Amended 2011 Budget and Appropriation Ordinance.

Ackerman Business Plan

The Board of Commissioners was presented with a revised Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center business plan, which included a facility overview, debt obligation, an executive summary, sections on fitness, gymnasium, turf and other items including Bulls/Sox, child care, and the climbing wall. A five year budget forecast detailing expenses and revenues, along with short term, midterm and long-term recommendations were also provided. Further discussion will take place at the March 6 Board Meeting.

Capital Projects Update

The Board of Commissioners were presented with a schedule of the 2012 Board approved Capital Projects. They include field improvements at Ackerman Park, Newton Park and Village Green; natural restoration at Ackerman Woods and Maryknoll, Sunset Pool repairs and locker room improvements; community attitude and interest survey; master plan of Lake Ellyn Park and the Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center roof overclad.

The Regular Meeting takes place at Spring Avenue Recreation Center, 185 Spring Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL at 7pm. Agenda items include:

2011/2012 Environmental Review

The Board of Commissioners reviewed the 2011 Environmental Committee accomplishments, and the 2012 goals.

2011 Accomplishments

• Increased recycling containers within facilities and parks – a total of 99.5 tons of material was recycled in 2011
• Over 300 light bulbs were removed from areas with natural light in two facilities
• Switching to Green Seal/EPA’s EPP (Environmentally Preferable Purchasing) cleaning products at all facilities

2012 Goals:

• Add rain barrels at Village Green garden plots and to the shed at Churchill Park
• Consider permeable pavers for future projects

Village Green Garden Plots

Staff presented the Board with the reconfiguration of the existing garden plots. There are now an additional two (2) 20’ x 20’ plots, along with the addition of fifteen (15) 10’ x 10’ plots. There is now a total of seventy-six (76) garden plots at Village Green Park.

Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center Business Plan

Facility Manager Kroger presented the Board of Commissioners with a revised Business Plan. A few goals that were presented include, increasing the amount of active programs by 20% each year for the next five years, and aggressive budgeting to increase net revenue by 70% from 2012 through 2016.
